FAQs

This assembly is designed for Honda GX240, GX270, GX340, and GX390 engines, as well as 420cc and 389cc engines found in Predator and Champion equipment. It is also compatible with a wide range of generators and power equipment from brands including Generac, Harbor Freight, Powermore, Powermate, Coleman, and Ryobi.
The rope measures 145cm (approximately 4.75 feet) in length with a diameter of 4.5mm (3/16-inch), which is the standard size required for the recoil systems on these engine series.
This kit serves as a direct replacement for OEM part numbers 28462-ZE3-W01 and 28461-ZH8-003.
Common symptoms include a rope that no longer retracts, a rope that has frayed or snapped, or a handle that has cracked or broken. If you feel excessive resistance when pulling or if the engine fails to turn over despite a full pull, the internal recoil spring or the pawl mechanism may also be failing.
To install, first remove the recoil starter housing from the engine. After removing the old rope, wind the pulley to create tension and secure it by inserting a flat-tip screwdriver through the pulley and into the housing slots. This holds the pulley in place while you thread the new rope through the housing and pulley eyelets. Once the rope is knotted at both ends, carefully remove the screwdriver to allow the rope to retract slowly.
Yes. To extend the life of your starter rope, always pull the handle straight out from the housing. Pulling at an angle causes the rope to rub against the housing eyelet, which leads to rapid fraying and snapping. Additionally, ensure you do not let the handle snap back against the housing; always guide it back by hand.
