This kit is designed for 7/8" (22mm) handlebars and is compatible with Coleman CT100U, CC100X, CT200U, CT200U-EX, and BT200X. It also fits Baja Doodlebug DB30, Motovox MBX10, MBX11, and MBX12, as well as Monster Moto 80cc, MMB80, MMB105, and various 79cc, 97cc, 100cc, 196cc, and 212cc mini bike builds.
You likely need a replacement if you notice the throttle grip sticking, failing to snap back to the idle position, or if the internal cable is frayed or snapped. Additionally, if the plastic housing is cracked or the adjustment screw no longer holds tension, the assembly should be replaced to ensure safe operation.
Installation is straightforward and typically takes 20 to 30 minutes. You will primarily need a set of metric Allen wrenches (hex keys) to remove the old housing and secure the new one, along with a pair of pliers to help seat the throttle cable into the engine's carburetor linkage.
Before installing, ensure your carburetor's throttle return spring is still functioning correctly. If the spring is weak or rusted, the new throttle cable may not pull the slide back to the idle position effectively. It is also a good practice to apply a small amount of cable lubricant to the inner wire to ensure smooth operation.
The most common causes of failure are moisture ingress leading to internal rust, sharp bends in the cable housing that cause binding, and general wear from the constant friction of the inner wire against the conduit. Regular exposure to outdoor elements often accelerates the degradation of the cable's protective casing.
