Installation Tips

  1. Locate and unclip the air cleaner housing cover.
  2. Remove the old filter element and pre-cleaner.
  3. Wipe the inside of the housing clean with a cloth.
  4. Insert the new filter element.
  5. Place the foam pre-cleaner over the element.
  6. Reinstall the cover and secure the clips.

You should replace the air filter if you notice a loss of engine power, increased fuel consumption, or black smoke coming from the exhaust. If the filter element appears heavily clogged with dust, debris, or oil, or if the paper pleats are damaged, it is time for a replacement to ensure proper engine airflow.
Installation is straightforward and typically takes less than 5 minutes. You generally do not need any specialized tools. Simply remove the air cleaner cover wing nut, lift off the cover, remove the old filter, and seat the new filter firmly in place before re-securing the cover.
While the air filter is out, take a moment to wipe out the inside of the air cleaner housing with a clean, dry cloth to remove any loose dirt or grit. Ensure that no debris falls into the carburetor intake during this process. If your engine uses a foam pre-cleaner, ensure it is clean or replaced as well to maximize the lifespan of the main paper filter.
