If your engine is surging, losing power under load, experiencing hard starting, or if the mower is jerking while in operation, the fuel pump may be failing to deliver consistent fuel pressure. You should also inspect the pump if you notice fuel leaking from the unit or if the engine stalls shortly after starting.
First, ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the spark plug wire for safety. Drain the fuel tank or use fuel line clamps to prevent spills. Remove the old fuel lines and mounting screws, then swap in the new pump. Ensure the vacuum line is securely attached to the engine port, as this provides the pulse needed to operate the pump. Double-check all hose clamps for a tight seal before restarting the engine.
This vacuum-style fuel pump is designed for standard gasoline. It is not compatible with fuel blends containing greater than 10% ethanol, as higher concentrations can degrade the internal diaphragms and seals of the pump over time.
