Skid shoes support the scraper housing and set how high the scraper bar rides above the ground. They help prevent the metal housing from dragging on pavement, reduce wear on the bucket edge, and make it easier to avoid picking up gravel or damaging decorative surfaces.
Common signs include uneven wear, deep grooves, cracking, missing material, or the auger housing starting to scrape the driveway. You may also notice the scraper bar wearing faster than normal or the machine becoming harder to control on uneven surfaces. Skid shoes are usually replaced in pairs so both sides keep the housing level.
Installation is straightforward. Support the snowblower on a flat surface, loosen and remove the skid shoe mounting hardware, install the new shoes, adjust both sides to the same height, and retighten the hardware.
