696065 697422 Carburetor & Air Filter Service Kit
Key Features
- Precision Tiller Calibration: Factory-jetted for 5HP to 6HP Intek horizontal engines to provide the stable, high-torque output required for heavy-duty rototilling and generator loads.
- Enhanced Governor Interface: Features a precision-calibrated throttle linkage setup designed to respond instantly to engine loads, preventing "bogging" when tiller blades hit hard soil.
- Industrial-Grade Air Filtration: Includes the 491588S flat air filter, utilizing high-density micro-pleated paper to block 99.9% of dust and debris in harsh gardening environments.
- Ethanol-Ready Seals: Equipped with modern Viton-tipped needle valves and chemical-resistant gaskets to withstand the drying and corrosive effects of E10 ethanol-blended fuels.
- Complete Intake Restoration: A comprehensive kit that combines the fuel delivery and air intake systems, ensuring a vacuum-tight seal and purified airflow in one installation.
Replaces / Cross-Reference Part Numbers
- Carburetor: 696065, 697422, 691859, 694882.
- Air Filter: 491588, 491588S, 399959, 5043, 4101.
- Engines: Compatible with Briggs & Stratton 110402, 110412, 110432, 215369 series.
Compatibility & Fitment
This kit is the primary fuel system replacement for mid-range Briggs & Stratton Intek Pro horizontal engines. Key compatible models include:
- Troy-Bilt Tillers: Super Bronco, Pro-Line, and various rear-tine rototillers.
- Portable Generators: Many 2500W to 3500W units utilizing the Intek 190cc/206cc 5.5HP engine platform.
- Industrial Equipment: Small water pumps, pressure washers, and air compressors using the 110400 or 215000 engine series.
- Technical Specification: Fits horizontal shaft engines with a bowl-style carburetor and a flat-style air cleaner housing.
When to Replace
- Hard Starting / No Start: The engine won't fire even with fresh gas, indicating the internal jets are "varnished" or the bowl is filled with debris.
- Engine "Hunting" or Surging: The engine RPM fluctuates wildly at idle or under load, typically caused by a restricted pilot jet or a vacuum leak at the mounting gaskets.
- Black Smoke / Soaked Filter: A clogged air filter restricts oxygen, causing a "rich" mixture that wastes fuel, fouls the spark plug, and reduces tilling power.
- Fuel Leaking from Intake: Gasoline seeping from the carburetor throat indicates a stuck float or worn needle valve, which is a significant fire hazard.
- Bogging Under Load: The engine starts and idles but stalls as soon as the tiller tines are engaged in the dirt, signifying a restricted high-speed circuit.
Installation Tips
- The Gasket Sandwich: Ensure the gaskets are placed in the exact order they were removed. A backward gasket can block the pulse hole or the air bleed, preventing the engine from running.
- Drain the Tank: Before installing the new 696065, drain the fuel tank completely. Old fuel will immediately clog the precision ports of your new carburetor.
- Linkage Alignment: Be careful not to bend the governor or throttle rods. Use needle-nose pliers to gently guide the "Z-bend" of the rod into the plastic throttle arm.
- Air Filter Seal: When installing the 491588S filter, ensure the rubber gasket is seated flat. Any gaps allow "dirty air" to bypass the filter and score the engine cylinder.
- Hand-Tighten Bolts: Snug the mounting bolts evenly. Over-tightening can warp the carburetor flange or the plastic air cleaner case, causing a permanent air leak.
