Compatibility & Fitment
This ignition switch and starter solenoid are used on compatible lawn mowers and lawn tractors from Husqvarna, AYP, Craftsman, Poulan, Cub Cadet, MTD, Ariens, Snapper, Gravely and Delta. The ignition switch is associated with LT, LTS, YT, ST, GT, GTH, GTVH, LTH, CT, CTH and YTH series applications, including selected Craftsman LT1000, LT1500, LT2000, LT3000 and LT3200 models. The starter solenoid is used on selected Cub Cadet XT1, XT2, LT1, ZT1 and RZT applications, including XT1-46, LT46, Enduro 46 and RZT L54 Fab configurations.
Confirm the original switch and solenoid part numbers, terminal layout and wiring before purchase. Model-series compatibility can vary by year and equipment configuration.
When to Replace
- Replace the ignition switch when the mower does not respond consistently to key rotation, loses power in a switch position or has worn or damaged terminals.
- A starter solenoid may need replacement when the starter does not engage despite a charged battery and a functioning control circuit, or when the solenoid clicks without delivering starting current.
- Inspect for corroded terminals, loose wiring, damaged connectors and battery or ground faults before replacing either component.
- Do not use the solenoid for continuous loads exceeding 100A. Continuous current above its intermittent-duty rating can overheat and damage it.
Installation Tips
- Disconnect the battery negative terminal before removing the old ignition switch or starter solenoid.
- Photograph or label each wire before disconnecting it, then follow the lawn mower wiring diagram during installation.
- Match each wire to the correct terminal and check for secure connections to help prevent reverse polarity, short circuits and burnout.
- Keep copper strands insulated and ensure the battery, ground and starter connections are clean and tight.
- The replacement can typically be completed in a few minutes when access is clear, but test all switch positions and starting functions before returning the mower to service.
