Compatibility & Fitment

  • Fits select chainsaw models from brands including Echo, Husqvarna, Poulan, Stihl, and others that require a 20-inch bar.
  • Ensure your chainsaw is specified to use a chain with 3/8" LP pitch, 0.050" gauge, and 72 drive links.
  • Verification: Match the specifications stamped on your guide bar or printed on your old chain to confirm compatibility.

When to Replace

  • Cutters are worn down to the end-of-life indicator line.
  • Chain produces fine sawdust instead of coarse wood chips after sharpening.
  • Visible damage such as broken cutters, cracked tie-straps, or bent drive links.
  • Chain can no longer be correctly tensioned on the guide bar.
  • Saw begins to cut crooked or bind, indicating uneven cutter wear or damage.

Installation Tips

  • Disconnect the spark plug wire before performing any maintenance.
  • Install the chain with cutters on the top of the bar facing forward, toward the bar tip.
  • Tension the chain according to your saw's user manual. A correctly tensioned chain should pull away from the bar slightly and snap back into place.
  • Lubricate the new chain and guide bar thoroughly before first use.
  • Re-check and adjust chain tension after the first few minutes of operation as new chains will stretch.

FAQ

This chain is designed for a 20-inch bar with a 3/8-inch pitch, 0.050-inch gauge, and 72 drive links. Before purchasing, verify these three specifications match your current chain or the markings stamped on your chainsaw's guide bar. If your bar requires a different gauge or drive link count, this chain will not fit correctly.
This chain is compatible with a wide range of models including Stihl MS029, 036, 039, 391, 310, 311, and Husqvarna 455 Rancher, 460, 55, 257, 261, 359, 362XP, 272XP, 555, and 455 H80.
You likely need a new chain if the saw begins to pull to one side while cutting, produces sawdust instead of wood chips, or requires you to apply excessive downward pressure to make a cut. Additionally, if the chain teeth have been sharpened down to the wear indicator marks or if you notice frequent stretching that prevents proper tensioning, it is time for a replacement.
Before installing the new chain, inspect your drive sprocket for signs of deep wear or 'grooving.' A worn sprocket can cause premature wear on a new chain. Also, ensure your guide bar rails are clean, free of burrs, and that the oiler hole is clear so the chain receives proper lubrication during operation.
After installing the chain, tighten the tensioner until the chain is snug against the bottom of the guide bar. Pull the chain along the top of the bar by hand; it should move smoothly with some resistance. You should be able to pull the chain slightly away from the bar, but the drive links should remain engaged in the bar groove. Always double-check the tension after the first few minutes of cutting, as new chains will naturally stretch slightly as they seat.
