Common tools include a screwdriver, nut driver or socket set, pliers, and possibly an Allen key depending on the auger coupling hardware. Always unplug the grill first and empty pellets from the hopper if needed for access.
Make sure the auger turns freely by hand once disconnected, and clear any pellet blockage from the auger tube and fire pot. Inspect the shear pin or coupling, wiring terminals, spade connectors, and controller output. It is also a good time to vacuum pellet dust from the hopper and feed system, since excess dust can contribute to future jams.
