FAQ

This assembly is compatible with 1999–2007 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500, 1500HD, 2500, 2500HD, and 3500 trucks.
This kit replaces OEM part numbers 15997911, 15228539, 15228541, and 15228540.
You likely need a replacement if the handle feels loose, fails to engage the latch mechanism, the plastic bezel is cracked or missing, or if the handle remains in the 'open' position and will not return to flush with the tailgate.
Installation is straightforward and typically takes 30 to 45 minutes. You will need a screwdriver (usually a T-handle or Phillips head) and a socket set to remove the interior access panel on the inside of the tailgate. Once the panel is removed, you can disconnect the rod clips and unbolt the handle assembly.
When connecting the latch rods to the new handle, ensure the clips are fully snapped into place. It is helpful to test the latch mechanism by pulling the handle before you fully re-secure the interior access panel to ensure the rods are properly tensioned and the tailgate opens and closes smoothly.
