If your washer fills with water but will not agitate or spin, the motor coupling is likely broken. If the washer spins slowly, makes a burning smell, or fails to spin entirely, the clutch assembly is often the culprit. If the agitator moves in one direction but fails to catch or agitate properly, the agitator dogs are likely worn down.
For most direct-drive models, you will need a 7/16-inch socket with an extension to remove the agitator bolt. You will also need a flat-head screwdriver or putty knife to release the cabinet clips, and potentially a socket set to remove the motor and transmission mounting bolts.
When installing the 80040 agitator dogs, ensure you hold the lower agitator steady to prevent it from rotating while loosening the bolt. When reassembling, make sure to properly align the ratchet assembly with the plastic tabs located near the bolt head to ensure the agitator engages correctly.
