You likely need a new motor coupling if the motor hums but the agitator or tub does not spin or agitate, often accompanied by a burning rubber smell. You need to replace the agitator dogs if the washer fills and drains properly, but the agitator makes a loud ratcheting or grinding noise and fails to move the clothes effectively during the wash cycle.
