When to Replace

Installation Tips

  • Ensure the engine is off and disconnect the spark plug wire before servicing.
  • To remove the old head, insert a locking pin or small screwdriver into the designated hole on the gear head to prevent the shaft from turning.
  • Unscrew the old trimmer head by turning it clockwise (it has a left-hand thread).
  • Clean any dirt or debris from the trimmer's threaded shaft.
  • Screw the new head on counter-clockwise until it is firmly hand-tight.

This unit replaces Stihl OEM part numbers 4002-710-2169 and 4002-710-2137. It is also a direct replacement for the older AutoCut 25-2 and AutoCut C25-2 trimmer heads.
The arbor size for this C26-2 head is 10mm x 1.0 Left-Hand (LH) thread.
The C26-2 is designed to accommodate trimmer line diameters of .080-inch, .095-inch, and .105-inch. It typically comes pre-wound with 13 feet of .095-inch line.
The AutoCut C26-2 features a bump-feed system that allows you to extend the cutting line while the engine is running. Simply tap the bottom of the trimmer head against the ground while the head is spinning; this releases the locking mechanism and allows centrifugal force to feed more line out to the correct cutting length.
You should consider replacing the head if you notice excessive vibration, if the bump-feed mechanism no longer advances the line, or if the plastic housing has become cracked or worn thin from contact with abrasive surfaces like concrete or stone.
