FAQ

This switch is compatible with Cub Cadet, MTD, Troy-Bilt, and Craftsman equipment requiring a 7-terminal PTO switch. It fits Cub Cadet and MTD applications including RTZ, XT2, ZT1, ZTR, and Zero-Turn models, as well as tractors such as 1515, 1517, 1525, and 1527. It is also compatible with MTD/Cub Cadet models including T8600, T8400, T8200, G8600, G8400, G8300, RZT46, Z6000, Z6400, Z6900, ZS6500, ZS6700, Z8200, Z8400, Z8600, RZT34, Z165, Z180, Z180L, Z200, and Z220. Because PTO switches vary by terminal layout and safety-circuit logic, please match your original part number and connector style before ordering.
This switch replaces OEM part numbers 725-3233A, 725-3233, 925-3233A, 925-3233, Delta 6201-308, and Delta 6204-308. It also cross-references with 430-180, 33-002, 263-5215, 12762, and 110-12762A. Note that part number 725-3233A has been superseded by 925-3233A.
Common symptoms include the mower blades failing to engage when the PTO knob is operated, intermittent clutch operation, the PTO only functioning in specific switch positions, or the tractor shutting off or refusing to crank due to a fault in the PTO safety circuit. A failing switch may also feel loose or sticky, or show signs of overheating and melted terminals at the connector.
Before replacing the switch, inspect the wiring plug for burned, loose, or corroded terminals, as connector damage can mimic a faulty switch. Additionally, check the PTO clutch, the related fuse, battery voltage, deck/clutch wiring, and the seat/brake safety interlock system. If the switch has 7 terminals, verify the terminal count and compare the markings or wiring orientation to your original part to ensure the replacement matches your machine's safety circuit.
On most lawn and zero-turn tractors, this is a straightforward repair typically taking 10 to 30 minutes. You will generally need basic hand tools such as a screwdriver, pliers, or a socket/wrench to remove the dash retainer or panel. Always disconnect the battery first, transfer the connector plug to the new switch in the same orientation, and ensure the switch locks fully into the dash or retaining nut before testing the blade engagement.
These switches often fail due to heat buildup at the terminals, moisture intrusion, vibration, repeated high-current clutch engagement, or worn internal contacts after extended use. A weak battery, a dragging PTO clutch, or poor electrical connections can also increase resistance and heat, which shortens the lifespan of the switch.
