W10117655 WPW10117655 Dryer Push-to-Start Switch
Key Features
- Precision Momentary Contact: Engineered with a high-durability internal spring mechanism that provides the momentary electrical "pulse" required to engage the motor relay and initiate the drying cycle.
- Silver-Alloy Terminals: Features two 1/4-inch male spade connectors coated in a corrosion-resistant alloy, ensuring a low-resistance connection and preventing the "pitting" that often leads to switch failure.
- High-Impact Heat-Stabilized Housing: Manufactured from a premium polymer designed to withstand the vibration and ambient heat of the dryer console without warping or cracking.
- Tactile Feedback Design: Provides a distinct, audible "click" upon activation, allowing for confirmed cycle starts and reducing the likelihood of partial contact that can arc and damage the switch.
Replaces / Cross-Reference Part Numbers
- Primary Part: W10117655, WPW10117655.
- Industry Standards: PS11748542, EAP11748542.

Compatibility & Fitment
This start switch is the standard ignition component for dozens of dryer series produced by Whirlpool. Key compatible brands include:
- Whirlpool & Maytag: Fits hundreds of YWED, WED, and MED series models (e.g., YWED4815EW1, YWED4915EW1, MEDC215EW).
- Kenmore (110 Series): Compatible with many 110-prefix models produced by Whirlpool (e.g., 110.60022010, 110.70022010).
- Crosley, Amana, & Roper: Direct fit for dozens of CDE, NED, and RED series budget-friendly dryers.
- Admiral & Inglis: Compatible with standard top-lint-filter dryers utilizing a mechanical push-to-start system.
- Note: This is a 2-terminal switch. Verify your terminal count before ordering, as some models utilize a 3-terminal variant.
When to Replace
- Dryer Won't Start: You turn the timer knob, the door is closed, and you push the button, but nothing happens.
- Intermittent Starting: You have to push the button multiple times or hold it in a specific way to get the motor to catch.
- No "Click" Sound: The button feels "mushy" or stays stuck in the "in" position, indicating the internal spring has snapped.
- Burning Smell in Console: Localized overheating at the terminals can cause the plastic housing to melt, creating a distinct electrical odor.
- Continuity Failure: The switch fails to show continuity on a multimeter when the button is actively pressed.
Installation Tips
- Safety First: You MUST unplug the dryer. Working inside the console involves exposed 120V and 240V terminals.
- Access the Switch: Remove the screws securing the back of the control console. The switch is usually held in place by two small tabs; press them inward to pop the switch out.
- Terminal Transfer: Use needle-nose pliers to move the wires one at a time from the old switch to the new W10117655 to ensure they stay in the correct position.
- Check the Knob: Ensure your plastic Start Knob isn't cracked. If the knob is stripped, it won't be able to apply enough pressure to the switch.
- Tighten Connectors: If the wire terminals feel loose when you push them onto the new switch, use your pliers to gently squeeze the female connectors for a tighter grip.
