Compatibility & Fitment

  • Designed for digital multimeters (DMMs) with a temperature measurement function
  • Compatible with instruments that accept K-Type thermocouples via standard banana jack inputs
  • Direct fit for many Fluke multimeters and other brands with compatible inputs

When to Replace

  • Temperature readings are inaccurate, erratic, or unstable
  • The multimeter displays an open-loop or "OL" error with the probe connected
  • Visible damage to the wire insulation, bead sensor, or banana plugs
  • Intermittent readings when the cable is moved

Installation Tips

  • Set the multimeter to the Type-K temperature setting before connecting the probe.
  • Insert the shrouded banana plugs fully into the correct input jacks on the multimeter, observing polarity markings.
  • Allow the thermocouple bead sufficient time to reach the temperature of the medium being measured for an accurate reading.
  • Do not exceed the probe's maximum rated temperature of 500°F (260°C).

FAQ

The 80BK-A is designed for use with any digital multimeter or clamp meter equipped with a standard banana jack input that supports Type K thermocouples. It is commonly used with models including the Fluke F17B+, F116C, F87-V, F28LL, F179, F287, F289, and F189.
This probe operates within a temperature range of -40°C to 260°C (-40°F to 500°F). It provides an accuracy of ±2.2°C and features a rapid response time of approximately 5 seconds.
The probe features a cable length of 1 meter (39.37 inches) and a probe diameter of 0.16 inches. It utilizes a standard caged banana jack connector for easy integration with your existing test equipment.
A failing thermocouple often manifests as erratic temperature readings, a 'OL' (open loop) error on your multimeter display, or no response at all when exposed to temperature changes. If the bead wire becomes frayed, kinked, or the insulation is compromised, the probe should be replaced to ensure accurate measurements.
To extend the life of the probe, avoid bending the bead wire at sharp angles or pulling on the cable near the connector. When not in use, store the probe loosely coiled to prevent internal wire fatigue or insulation cracking.
