FAQs

This kit provides a complete defrost assembly, including the WR51X10055 defrost heater, the WR55X10025 temperature sensor (thermistor), and the WR50X10068 defrost thermostat.
This kit is compatible with a wide range of refrigerators manufactured by GE, Hotpoint, Kenmore, Haier, Monogram, and Café.
You likely need this kit if your refrigerator is experiencing excessive frost buildup in the freezer, the freezer section is too warm, the refrigerator is not defrosting properly, or if the temperature in either cabinet is consistently higher than it should be.
The defrost heater (WR51X10055) replaces WR51X10030, AP3183311, 914088, AH303781, and EA303781. The defrost thermostat (WR50X10068) replaces AP3884317, 1170024, WR50X10015, WR50X10017, WR50X10018, WR50X10028, WR50X10051, WR50X10052, WR50X10053, WR50X10054, WR50X10074, WR50X10075, and WR50X10079.
While you may identify one specific failed component, replacing the heater, thermostat, and sensor together as a set is recommended. This ensures the entire defrost system is refreshed, preventing recurring issues caused by an aging component that may fail shortly after the first repair.
Before installation, ensure the freezer is cleared of all food and that any existing frost buildup is melted away. This allows you to clearly see the wire connections and ensures the new thermostat can be properly clipped onto the evaporator coil.
