FAQ

This kit is compatible with Stihl 044, 046, MS361, MS362, MS362C, MS440, MS441, MS460, and MS461 chainsaws.
This assembly replaces OEM part number 1128 007 1000. It is also a suitable replacement for components referenced by 1135 160 2050.
You should inspect your clutch drum if the chainsaw chain continues to rotate while the engine is idling, or if you notice excessive vibration during cutting. Additionally, if you see deep grooves or 'trenching' on the sprocket rim where the drive links sit, or if the needle bearing feels gritty or has play, it is time for a replacement to prevent damage to the crankshaft or clutch assembly.
To perform this replacement, you will need a piston stop tool to lock the crankshaft, a clutch removal tool (or a suitable punch and hammer to turn the clutch clockwise to loosen), a flat-head screwdriver for the E-clip, and a pair of needle-nose pliers for handling the needle bearing.
Always inspect the needle bearing for signs of heat discoloration or lack of lubrication. It is best practice to clean the crankshaft end and apply a light coat of high-quality chainsaw grease to the new needle bearing before installation. If the worm gear shows signs of stripped teeth, ensure the oil pump drive is also inspected to maintain proper chain lubrication.
This is a moderate-level repair. Once you have removed the side cover and bar, the entire process generally takes between 20 to 40 minutes, depending on how easily the clutch assembly breaks loose from the crankshaft.
