78-Inch Throttle Cable for GY6 50cc-150cc Scooter Moped Go-Kart Engines

Key Features

  • Extended 78-inch (198cm) total length specifically designed for long-wheelbase scooters and rear-engine go-karts.
  • Low-friction inner wire coating to ensure a smooth, responsive "snap-back" throttle action.
  • Weather-resistant outer housing designed to prevent internal corrosion and cable binding in high-humidity environments.
  • Standard 10mm threaded adjuster at the handlebar end for precise tension calibration.
  • Universal "noodle" curved guide at the carburetor end for clean routing around engine components.

Compatibility & Fitment

  • Engines: GY6 50cc (139QMB), 125cc (152QMI), and 150cc (157QMJ) 4-stroke OHV engines.
  • Scooter Models: TaoTao (Lancer, BWS, ATM50), Jonway, Roketa, Ice Bear, Wolf RX50, Peace Sports, and Future Champion.
  • Other Vehicles: 150cc Go-Karts, Dune Buggies, Pit Bikes, and Dongfang Mopeds.

When to Replace

  • The throttle grip feels heavy, "crunchy," or fails to return to the idle position automatically.
  • Visible fraying or broken steel strands at the barrel ends or junction points.
  • The engine RPMs increase unintentionally when the handlebars are turned to the left or right.
  • The protective outer casing is melted, kinked, or cracked, exposing the inner wire to debris.
  • Excessive "slop" in the throttle grip that cannot be removed using the inline adjuster.

Installation Tips

  • Follow Original Routing: Route the new cable exactly along the path of the old one to avoid high-heat areas like the exhaust manifold.
  • Avoid Tight Bends: Ensure there are no sharp angles in the cable path, as these will cause internal friction and premature failure.
  • Set Free Play: Adjust the threaded barrel so there is approximately 2mm to 4mm of free play in the throttle grip before the carburetor butterfly begins to open.
  • Lubrication: Apply a small amount of silicone-based cable lubricant to the inner wire before final assembly to ensure long-term smooth operation.
  • Safety Check: With the engine off, turn the handlebars fully from lock to lock and verify the throttle stays in the closed position throughout the entire range of motion.

FAQ

This cable is intended for many GY6-based 50cc, 125cc, and 150cc applications, including scooters, mopeds, and go-karts that use a cable-operated throttle. Compatibility depends on more than engine size alone, so you should match the overall cable length, end fittings, and routing style on your original cable before ordering.
Compare three things on your original cable: the overall length, the style of the upper and lower cable ends, and the housing routing from the throttle grip to the carburetor or throttle linkage. A 78-inch cable may fit many GY6 setups, but different frames and handlebar layouts can use different lengths even with the same engine family.
Common signs include a sticky or hard-to-twist throttle, delayed engine response, frayed cable strands, a throttle that does not snap back smoothly, excessive free play that cannot be adjusted out, or a broken inner cable. On scooters and go-karts, a damaged cable can also cause inconsistent idle speed or limited throttle opening.
Installation is usually a moderate repair. Typical tools include screwdrivers, small wrenches or sockets, and pliers. On many GY6 scooters or karts, the job takes about 30 to 90 minutes depending on body panel access and cable routing. The most important part is routing the new cable the same way as the old one to avoid sharp bends or binding.
Inspect the throttle tube or grip assembly, carburetor throttle arm or slide, return spring, and any cable adjusters. Make sure the old cable did not fail because of kinks, melted housing near the engine, rust, or interference from damaged body panels. It is also a good idea to verify the throttle returns freely with the engine off before starting the vehicle.
They commonly fail from corrosion inside the cable housing, repeated sharp bends, dirt or water intrusion, heat exposure, or fraying at the ends from misalignment. On go-karts and outdoor-use scooters, mud, vibration, and poor routing are especially common causes. A cable that is too tight or has insufficient free play can also wear prematurely.
