3387747 Dryer Heating Element & 279973 Thermal Cut-Off Safety Kit
Key Features
- Full Kit Set: 1 x 3387747 Dryer Heating Element, 1 x 279973 Dryer High Limit Thermostat and Thermal Cut-Off Kit
- Premium Ni-Cr Heating Coil: The 3387747 element is manufactured with a high-grade Nickel-Chromium alloy coil, providing superior thermal durability and consistent heat output for faster, more efficient drying cycles.
- Complete Safety Overhaul: Includes the 279973 Thermal Cut-off Kit, which provides both a high-limit thermostat and a one-time thermal fuse to protect your dryer and home from overheating.
- Reinforced Ceramic Insulators: Features high-density ceramic standoffs that securely anchor the heating coil, preventing sagging and potential electrical shorts against the metal heater housing.
- Industrial-Grade Galvanized Steel: The element is housed in a corrosion-resistant galvanized steel frame designed to withstand the high-vibration and high-heat environment of heavy-duty drying.
- Plug-and-Play Compatibility: Engineered as a direct-fit replacement with standard spade-terminal connectors, ensuring a straightforward installation without the need for splicing wires.

Compatibility & Fitment
This kit is the primary heating repair solution for a wide range of Whirlpool-built electric dryers. Key compatible brands include:
- Whirlpool & Kenmore: Fits many 110-series models, including traditional top-load matching and front-load stackable units.
- Maytag & Amana: Compatible with various Centennial, Bravos, and high-capacity electric dryer models.
- KitchenAid, Roper, & Estate: A universal fit for dozens of 29-inch and 27-inch wide cabinet dryers utilizing the 3387747 element style.
- Note: Specifically for Electric dryers. If you have a gas model, it uses a burner valve and igniter system rather than this coil element.
When to Replace
- No Heat / Cold Air: The dryer drum spins and the timer advances, but the clothes stay wet—usually indicating a snapped heating coil or a blown 279973 thermal fuse.
- Takes Multiple Cycles to Dry: A partially failed or grounded element can produce insufficient heat, doubling or tripling your drying times and energy bills.
- Dryer Shuts Off Mid-Cycle: The thermal cut-off has tripped due to excessive internal heat, often caused by a restricted exhaust vent or a failing blower motor.
- Burning Smell: Often a sign of lint buildup scorching against the heater box or a wire terminal overheating due to a loose connection.
- Visible Coil Damage: Upon inspection, the heating wire inside the metal housing is visibly broken, burnt, or touching the side of the heater box.
Installation Tips
- Safety First: You MUST unplug the dryer from the 240V outlet before beginning. Electric dryers use high voltage that can be lethal—do not attempt a "live" repair or test.
- Vacuum the Chassis: While the back or front panel is removed, vacuum out all accumulated lint from the bottom of the dryer and the blower housing. This is the best way to prevent your new parts from failing.
- The Vent Test: Before your first load with the new parts, check your outdoor exhaust vent for obstructions. A clogged vent is the #1 reason heating elements and thermal fuses fail.
- Check the Terminals: Inspect the wire connectors for signs of melting or discoloration. If a connector is loose, crimp it slightly with pliers to ensure a tight fit on the new thermostat or element.
- Handle with Care: When sliding the 3387747 element into the heater box, ensure the coil is not stretched or touching any metal surfaces, as this will cause an immediate short.
