  • Compatible with standard RV propane pigtail hoses.

When to Replace

  • Inconsistent flame, popping sounds, or low pressure at appliances.
  • Appliance burners produce a yellow or sooty flame instead of a steady blue flame.
  • Gas odor or audible hissing is detected at or near the regulator.
  • Regulator fails to automatically switch over from an empty cylinder.
  • Visible cracks, corrosion, or physical damage to the regulator body.

Installation Tips

  • Shut off the gas supply at both propane cylinders before installation.
  • Mount the regulator with the vent facing downward to prevent water and debris accumulation.
  • Use a pipe thread sealant rated for propane gas on NPT threads only; do not use sealant on flare fittings.
  • After installation is complete, perform a leak test on all connections using a soapy water solution.

FAQ

This regulator is designed to maintain a continuous supply of propane to your appliances by automatically switching the draw from an empty service cylinder to a reserve cylinder. The first stage reduces the high tank pressure to an intermediate pressure, and the second stage reduces it to the standard 11 inches of water column required for safe appliance operation.
The indicator on the top of the regulator will change color—typically from green to red—when the primary cylinder is empty and the system has begun drawing from the reserve cylinder. This allows you to safely disconnect the empty tank for refilling without interrupting the gas flow to your equipment.
You likely need a replacement if you experience inconsistent flame height on your appliances, a complete loss of gas pressure despite having full tanks, or if you smell propane near the regulator. Additionally, if the indicator fails to change color or if you notice oil-like residue leaking from the vent, the internal diaphragm has likely failed.
Installation typically requires an adjustable wrench or a pipe wrench and leak-detection solution. The process generally takes 20 to 30 minutes. Ensure the gas supply is turned off at the tanks before beginning, and always test all connections with a leak-detection solution after installation to ensure a proper seal.
The most common cause of failure is the degradation of the internal rubber diaphragm due to exposure to the elements or contaminants in the propane supply. Over time, the diaphragm can become brittle or develop pinhole leaks, which prevents the regulator from maintaining a consistent output pressure.
While the regulator is maintenance-free, you should inspect the vent periodically to ensure it is clear of debris, spider webs, or ice, which can block the diaphragm's movement. Additionally, ensure the regulator is mounted with the vent facing downward to prevent water accumulation.
