2" Exhaust Clamp Butt Joint Band Clamp

Key Features

  • Quantity: 2 clamps
  • Type: Butt joint band clamp
  • Material: Stainless steel for corrosion resistance
  • Design: Connects two pipes of the same diameter end-to-end
  • Mechanism: Creates a 360-degree seal to prevent exhaust leaks
  • Installation: Allows for component connection without welding

Replaces / Cross-Reference Part Numbers

  • Serves as a universal replacement for butt joint style clamps designed for 2-inch OD piping.

Compatibility & Fitment

  • Fits exhaust system components with a 2-inch (50.8mm) outer diameter (OD).
  • Use for connecting exhaust pipes, mufflers, resonators, and catalytic converters.
  • Specifically designed for butt joints where two pipes meet end-to-end.
  • Not intended for lap joints where one pipe fits inside another.

When to Replace

  • During installation of new or custom exhaust systems.
  • To repair a broken or separated exhaust pipe section.
  • When an existing clamp is rusted, deformed, or fails to hold a seal.
  • To eliminate exhaust leaks at a pipe-to-pipe connection point.

Installation Tips

  • Ensure the pipe ends are clean, free of debris, and properly aligned before clamping.
  • Center the clamp over the joint, ensuring equal overlap on both pipe sections.
  • Tighten hardware evenly and incrementally to the recommended torque specification.
  • Avoid over-tightening to prevent damage to the clamp or distortion of the pipes.

FAQ

This is a butt-joint band clamp, made to join two 2-inch exhaust pipes end-to-end. It is typically used when two pipes of the same outside diameter meet in a straight section, rather than one pipe slipping inside the other.
You need a 2-inch clamp if the exhaust tubing at the joint measures 2 inches in the applicable clamp area. Measure the pipe carefully before ordering, since exhaust parts are often identified by pipe diameter and a small size difference can prevent proper sealing.
Common symptoms include an exhaust leak at the joint, increased exhaust noise, rattling near the connection, visible corrosion on the clamp, or a clamp that no longer tightens evenly. Soot marks around the joint can also indicate escaping exhaust gases.
A band clamp is often preferred when you want a more even sealing force around the pipe and less pipe distortion than a traditional U-bolt style clamp. That can be helpful if you may need to disassemble the exhaust later for additional repairs.
Most installations only require basic hand tools such as a socket or wrench sized for the clamp hardware, plus a tape measure or caliper to confirm pipe size. If the old exhaust joint is rusty, penetrating oil and a wire brush are often helpful during removal and prep.
Make sure both pipe ends are clean, round, and aligned properly. Remove rust scale, old sealant, and burrs so the clamp can seat evenly. Also inspect the surrounding exhaust pipe for thinning metal, cracks, or pinholes, since a new clamp will not fix damaged tubing.
Exhaust clamps commonly fail from heat cycling, road salt, moisture, vibration, and general corrosion. If the pipes are misaligned or the joint is under stress from worn hangers, the clamp may loosen or wear out faster.
