FAQ

The G62 backup valve kit is designed for Zodiac Polaris pressure-side pool cleaners, including the 3900 Sport, 280 Black Max F5B, and TR35P. It is also compatible with Polaris models 180, 280, 380, 3900, 480, and 480 PRO Black Max. To ensure a proper fit, verify your cleaner's required backup valve part number and hose nut part number before ordering.
This backup valve kit replaces part numbers G62 and D16. Additionally, the black G62 version is fully compatible with systems that previously used the older white G52 backup valve, making G52 a valid cross-reference.
The backup valve briefly redirects water flow, causing the cleaner to reverse direction and pull away from obstacles like corners, steps, and ladders. When functioning correctly, the valve ensures the cleaner periodically backs up during operation rather than getting trapped in one spot.
Common symptoms include the cleaner getting stuck repeatedly, failing to reverse, backing up too frequently, exhibiting weak or erratic reverse action, or showing visible leaks and cracks around the valve body or hose connections. If your cleaner's movement has become inconsistent, the backup valve is a primary component to inspect.
Installation is a straightforward process as this is an inline hose component. Simply disconnect the cleaner from the pool, remove the old valve from the feed hose, and install the new valve using the D16 hose nuts. While the process can often be completed by hand, adjustable pliers may be used if the hose nuts are tight. The entire installation typically takes 10 to 20 minutes.
Before installing the new valve, inspect the feed hose for splits, worn hose nuts, and debris in the water path. Ensure the cleaner is receiving proper pressure from the booster system and that all hose floats and connections are in good condition. Note that low pressure or damaged hose sections can often mimic the symptoms of a faulty backup valve.
