FAQ

This G52 back-up valve kit is designed for Polaris pressure-side cleaners, including models 180, 280, 380, 3900, and 480. It is also compatible with versions such as the Vac-Sweep 280, Vac-Sweep 380, 280 TankTrax, 480 PRO, 3900 Sport, and TR28P. To ensure a perfect match, confirm that your cleaner uses back-up valve part number G52.
This kit replaces part number G52. It serves as the complete back-up valve kit, including the internal gears required for compatible Polaris cleaners.
The back-up valve periodically redirects water flow, causing the cleaner to reverse for a few seconds. This action helps the unit pull away from corners, steps, ladders, and other obstacles, allowing it to continue cleaning the pool effectively instead of getting stuck.
Typical symptoms include the cleaner getting stuck in one area frequently, failing to back up, backing up constantly, exhibiting weak or erratic reversing cycles, or showing visible cracking and leaking at the valve body. If the cleaner’s feed hose is intact and water pressure is normal, the back-up valve is the primary component to inspect.
Installation is straightforward and typically takes 5 to 15 minutes. In most cases, the valve swaps directly into the hose assembly without requiring special tools. Before beginning, ensure the booster pump is shut off and the pressure in the cleaner line has been relieved.
Inspect the feed hose for splits, worn connectors, or loose swivels, and verify that the booster pump is supplying proper pressure. Check the cleaner for debris restrictions to ensure the back-up valve is the actual cause of the issue rather than a hose leak or pressure drop. If the valve housing is cracked or the internal reversing action is inconsistent, replacement is recommended.
