DC47-00018A High-Limit Dryer Thermostat
Key Features
- Critical Thermal Safety Link: Engineered as a high-limit safety device that monitors the temperature of the heater housing, automatically cutting power to the heating element if temperatures exceed safe operating levels.
- Heat-Stabilized Ceramic Construction: Manufactured with a premium ceramic base that provides superior electrical insulation and structural integrity, preventing the thermostat from warping or failing under extreme thermal stress.
- Precision-Calibrated Cut-Off: Features a factory-set temperature threshold designed to protect the dryer cabinet and internal components from overheating, reducing the risk of fire and mechanical damage.
- Corrosion-Resistant Terminals: Equipped with two 1/4-inch male spade terminals coated in a high-conductivity alloy to ensure a stable, low-resistance connection and prevent localized "arcing" heat.
Replaces / Cross-Reference Part Numbers
- Primary Part: DC47-00018A.
- Industry Standards: AP4201898, AP6008682, PS4205217, PS11741822.
- Legacy Cross-Reference: 35001092, 503497, 1122485, DC47-00018A.
Compatibility & Fitment
This high-limit thermostat is the primary safety sensor for most modern Samsung-manufactured large-capacity dryers. Key compatible brands include:
- Samsung DV Series: Fits hundreds of models including DV45H7000EW, DV42H5200EW, DV40J3000EW, and DVE50M7450W.
- Kenmore (402 Series): Compatible with the vast majority of 402-prefix high-efficiency dryers produced by Samsung for Sears (e.g., 402.89032010).
- Samsung DVE/DVG Platforms: Fits both Electric (DVE) and Gas (DVG) versions of the front-load and top-load dryer lineups.
- Note: This part is almost always located directly on the Metal Heater Housing or the burner assembly. Please verify your original part number before ordering.
When to Replace
- Dryer Runs but No Heat: The most common symptom; if the thermostat has "tripped" or failed in the open position, the heating element will not receive power.
- "tE" or "HE" Error Codes: Samsung digital displays will often throw these codes when the sensor detects abnormal temperatures or an open circuit in the heating system.
- Dryer Shuts Off Mid-Cycle: The unit stops unexpectedly after a few minutes of operation as the thermostat detects excessive heat buildup, often due to a vent clog.
- Takes Multiple Cycles to Dry: If the thermostat is out of calibration, it may "cycle" the heater off too early, preventing the dryer from reaching effective drying temperatures.
- Continuity Failure: To confirm failure, test with a multimeter. This thermostat should show Continuity (a closed circuit) at room temperature. If it shows "Open," it is faulty.
Installation Tips
- Safety First: You MUST unplug the dryer from the wall or turn off the circuit breaker. High-voltage electricity is present at the heater housing.
- Accessing the Part: On most Samsung models, you must remove the top panel and the front door bulkhead to lift out the drum, exposing the heater box at the bottom-right of the cabinet.
- Clean the Vents: **CRITICAL:** High-limit thermostats usually fail because of restricted airflow. Use a vacuum to clean the internal blower housing and the entire exhaust duct to the outside wall.
- Inspect the Thermal Fuse: This part is often paired with a **DC96-00887A Thermal Fuse**. If the thermostat failed due to overheating, the fuse has likely blown as well and should be replaced as a set.
- Secure Mounting: Ensure the thermostat is screwed firmly against the heater housing. If it is loose, it will not accurately detect the temperature, leading to premature failure or unsafe operation.
