Compatibility & Fitment

  • Compatible with PID temperature controllers, digital thermometers, PLCs, and data acquisition systems that accept a 3-wire Pt100 input.
  • Probe diameters and lengths vary by model to fit different thermowells and mounting requirements.
  • Available with process connections such as 1/2 in. NPT threads for secure installation in pipes or vessels.

When to Replace

  • Inaccurate, fluctuating, or erratic temperature readings.
  • Controller displays an open circuit, short circuit, or sensor error message.
  • Visible physical damage to the probe sheath, transition, or cable insulation.
  • No response to changes in temperature.

Installation Tips

  • Ensure the measurement device is configured for a 3-wire Pt100 RTD input.
  • For liquid or gas measurement, ensure the sensing portion of the probe is fully immersed in the flow.
  • Do not bend the cable sharply at the probe transition point.
  • Verify wire connections are correct per the controller's documentation (typically two common wires and one sense wire).
  • Use a thermowell for applications in high-pressure or corrosive environments.

FAQ

A 3-wire RTD sensor is designed to compensate for lead wire resistance. By using the third wire, the measuring instrument can subtract the resistance of the lead wires from the total measurement, providing significantly higher accuracy compared to a 2-wire configuration, especially when the sensor is located at a distance from the controller.
This PT100 probe is a universal industrial-grade sensor compatible with most PID temperature controllers, PLC input modules, and digital thermometers that support 3-wire RTD inputs. It is commonly used in HVAC systems, food processing equipment, laboratory ovens, and industrial machinery.
A failing RTD sensor typically displays erratic temperature readings, a 'sensor error' or 'open loop' message on your controller, or a reading that is stuck at a fixed value regardless of actual temperature changes. If the sensor shows infinite resistance or zero resistance when tested with a multimeter, it is faulty and requires replacement.
Installation typically requires a screwdriver for terminal block connections, wire strippers, and potentially a wrench if the probe is being threaded into a thermowell. If you are extending the leads, ensure you use high-quality shielded cable to prevent electrical interference.
Ensure that the sensor is fully seated in the medium you are measuring to avoid ambient temperature interference. When wiring to your controller, verify the pinout configuration; while the two wires of the same color are interchangeable, the third wire must be connected to the correct terminal to ensure accurate lead-wire resistance compensation.
