FAQ

This belt fits 50-inch deck zero-turn mowers from Cub Cadet, Troy-Bilt, Craftsman, and MTD. Compatible models include Cub Cadet RZT-L50, RZT-L50 KH, RZT-S50, RZT-S50 KH, RZT-LX 50 KW, RZT-SX 50 EFI, ZT1-50, ZT1-50 KW, ZT1-50 KH, ZT2-50, and ZT2-50 KW; Troy-Bilt Mustang 50 XP; and Craftsman Z550, Z5600, Z5650, ZS6700, ZTS1-50 Fab, and ZTS2-50 Fab. Because zero-turn decks can vary by serial range, match the belt part number from your mower's model/serial tag before ordering.
This belt replaces OEM part numbers 954-05078, 754-05078, 490-501-C070, 490-501-M070, CMXGZAM501083, 954-05078A, and 754-05078A. Always verify the exact part number originally fitted to your mower.
This is a PTO/deck belt for 50-inch decks measuring approximately 5/8 inch by 143.5 inches. The top width is approximately .656 inch, which is standard for the 5/8-inch class used on these mower decks.
Common signs include the blades not engaging, weak or uneven cutting, a squealing belt noise when the PTO is turned on, visible cracking or glazing, belt fraying, or the belt repeatedly jumping off the pulleys. On zero-turn 50-inch decks, a worn deck belt can also cause poor discharge and uncut strips because blade speed drops under load.
For most 50-inch zero-turn decks, this is a moderate repair. Expect to spend about 30 to 90 minutes depending on deck access and whether you choose to remove the deck. Common tools required include socket wrenches, a breaker bar or ratchet for spring-tension idlers, work gloves, and a phone to photograph the belt routing before removal. If the old belt came off shredded, inspect every pulley groove before installing the new one.
Inspect the idler pulleys for rough bearings, check that the tension arm moves freely, and ensure the spindle pulleys are not bent or packed with grass. Also, verify that the belt guides are not bent into the belt path. A new belt can fail early if a pulley bearing is seized, the deck is packed with debris, or the belt is routed incorrectly around the PTO and idlers.
The most common causes are heat buildup from slipping, weak spring tension, worn idler bearings, misaligned pulleys, and debris packed around the deck. Mowing tall or wet grass regularly can overload the belt, and engaging the PTO at full engine speed can increase shock load. If you are replacing the belt frequently, the problem is often elsewhere in the deck drive system rather than the belt itself.
