FAQ

This filter is designed for 159cc (1X65, 5X65, 6X65, 8X65) and 196cc (5X70, 6X70, 7X70) OHV engines. It is compatible with a wide range of walk-behind mowers from Cub Cadet (SC100, SC300, SC500, SC700, SC900 series), Troy-Bilt (TB210, TB230, TB300 XP), and Craftsman models utilizing these engine series.
This filter replaces OEM part numbers 951-15245 and 751-15245. It also cross-references with Cub Cadet 490-200-C065, 490-200-M065, and Troy-Bilt 490-200-Y065.
You should inspect your air filter if you notice a loss of engine power, increased fuel consumption, or if the engine runs roughly or 'surges' during operation. If the paper element appears dark, clogged with debris, or shows signs of oil saturation, it should be replaced immediately to prevent engine damage.
Installation is straightforward and typically takes less than 5 minutes. In most cases, you only need a screwdriver or a socket wrench to remove the air cleaner cover. Once the cover is off, simply slide out the old filter and snap the new one into place, ensuring the seal is seated correctly before replacing the cover.
These filters are designed to trap fine dust and debris common in mowing environments. Over time, the filter media becomes saturated with dust, which restricts the airflow required for proper combustion. Operating in dry, dusty conditions will accelerate this process, as will any oil blow-back from the crankcase breather tube.
While you have the air cleaner housing open, it is a good practice to wipe out any loose dirt or debris from the inside of the housing with a clean rag. Avoid using compressed air to clean the housing, as this can force debris into the carburetor intake. If you are performing a full tune-up, this is also an ideal time to inspect your spark plug and check your engine oil level.
