FAQ

This switch is designed for Exmark Lazer Z and Lazer Z XP models with 60" and 72" decks, as well as the Toro Z500 series and Z Master zero-turn mowers with 60" and 72" decks.
This part replaces Exmark and Toro OEM numbers 103-0206, 104-2541, 109-4736, and 88-9830. It also cross-references with Worldlawn 5208003, Stens 430-334, and Rotary 11822.
A failing ignition switch often presents as intermittent starting, the engine cutting out while in operation, or a complete lack of response when turning the key to the 'start' position. If you have verified that your battery is charged, the starter solenoid is functional, and the safety interlocks (like the PTO switch) are disengaged, the issue is frequently a worn internal contact within the ignition switch.
Replacing this switch is a straightforward task that typically takes 15 to 30 minutes. You will generally need a socket set or wrench to remove the mounting nut and a screwdriver to access the console panel. Before starting, disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental shorts. It is helpful to label or take a photo of the wire positions on the 6 terminals before disconnecting them to ensure the new switch is wired identically.
Because these switches are exposed to outdoor environments, moisture and debris can accumulate inside the key slot or around the terminals, leading to corrosion. If you frequently operate in dusty or wet conditions, ensure the console cover is secure. If the switch feels 'gritty' or requires extra force to turn, it is usually a sign that the internal springs and contacts are wearing out and the switch should be replaced before it fails completely in the field.
