532197242 Mower Deck Drive Belt (138.75" x 0.65")

Key Features

  • Heavy-Duty Aramid Cord Reinforcement: Constructed with high-strength Aramid (Kevlar) fibers to provide superior tensile strength, preventing stretching and snapping even under the high-stress conditions of thick grass and heavy cutting.
  • Extreme Heat & Oil Resistance: Engineered with a specialized outer wrap that dissipates heat quickly and resists oil, grease, and debris buildup, ensuring the belt remains flexible and durable throughout the mowing season.
  • Precision V-Groove Profile: Features a high-tolerance V-shape design that seats perfectly into mower pulleys, maximizing power transfer from the engine to the blades while reducing vibration and noise.
  • Anti-Slip Surface: The clutch-grade cover allows for smooth engagement and disengagement of the mower deck, preventing "burnt" spots on the belt during start-up and protecting the drive mandrels.

Compatibility & Fitment

This belt is specifically designed for 48-inch mower decks on Husqvarna-built tractors. Key compatible models include:

  • Husqvarna YTH Series: Fits YTH24V48, YTH24K48, YTH2348, YTH2448, and YTA24V48.
  • Craftsman: Compatible with many 48" deck riders (e.g., 917.28851, 917.28724, 917.28821).
  • Poulan & Poulan Pro: Fits PB24H48YT and other 48-inch lawn tractors.
  • Ariens: Fits specific 48" deck models utilizing the AYP/Husqvarna chassis.
  • Note: This belt is for the Mower Deck (Blades). It is not the drive belt for the transmission/ground speed.

When to Replace

  • Squealing During Blade Engagement: If the belt "screeches" when you pull the PTO switch, it has likely stretched or glazed, losing the friction needed to turn the mandrels.
  • Frayed or "Shredded" Edges: Visible cord exposure or "hairy" edges indicate the belt is rubbing against a bracket or has reached its fatigue limit.
  • Belt Jumping Off: If the belt frequently pops off the pulleys, it has stretched beyond the adjustment capacity of the idler tensioner.
  • Vertical Cracks: Deep cracks on the underside of the V-shape indicate the rubber has dried out and the belt is at high risk of snapping mid-mow.

Installation Tips

  • Safety First (CRITICAL): Disconnect the spark plug wire and engage the parking brake before working under the mower deck.
  • The Routing Diagram (PRO TIP): Use a phone to take a photo of the current belt routing before removal. If your deck's routing sticker is missing, remember the belt must wrap around the inside of the idler pulleys and the outside of the three blade mandrels.
  • Check the Mandrels: While the belt is off, spin each mandrel pulley by hand. If you hear grinding or feel resistance, your mandrel bearings (187292) may also need replacement to prevent burning the new belt.
  • Clear the Debris: Use compressed air or a brush to remove dried grass and pebbles from the pulley grooves. Debris in the V-groove is the leading cause of premature belt wear.
  • Verify Tension: After installation, ensure the idler arm moves freely. A stuck tensioner arm will prevent the belt from seating correctly and can cause immediate damage.

FAQ

This belt is designed for 48-inch mower decks on Husqvarna, Craftsman, Poulan, and Jonsered lawn tractors. Compatible models include, but are not limited to, YTH24V48, YTH24K48, YTH2348, YTA24V48, YTH22K48, YTH23K48, YTH23V48, YTH2448T, 2348LS, 2748GLS, GTH2448T, and GTH264T.
This belt serves as a direct replacement for OEM part numbers 532197242 and 197242. It also cross-references with 593773401, 33154, and Oregon part number 175-894.
This is a 5/8-inch wide belt with an effective length of 138.75 inches.
You likely need a new belt if you notice the mower deck failing to engage, excessive slipping during operation, burning rubber smells, or visible fraying, cracking, or stretching along the length of the belt. If the mower leaves uneven grass strips or the blades stop spinning under load, the belt has likely lost its tension and grip.
Installing a deck belt is a standard maintenance task that typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. You will need basic hand tools, such as a socket set, to remove the deck covers and release the tensioner pulley. It is highly recommended to take a photo of the existing belt routing before removal to ensure the new belt is threaded correctly through all pulleys and guides.
While replacing the belt, inspect your idler pulleys and mandrel pulleys for any play, noise, or resistance when spinning by hand. If a pulley bearing is failing, it will quickly shred a new belt. Additionally, ensure the deck is free of debris and grass buildup, as this can cause the belt to run hot and fail prematurely.
