Compatibility & Fitment
This replacement gasket is designed to fit the plunger assembly of various AeroPress models, including:
- AeroPress Original: Fits all standard models produced since the product's launch.
- AeroPress Go: Compatible with the compact travel version of the brewer.
- AeroPress Clear: Fits the transparent polycarbonate and Tritan versions.
- AeroPress XL: Please note, this standard gasket is not compatible with the larger diameter AeroPress XL chamber.
When to Replace
- Loss of Pressure: Coffee begins to leak past the rubber seal and out the top of the plunger while pressing.
- Decreased Resistance: The plunger falls through the chamber too easily, indicating the rubber has shrunk or lost its seal.
- Sticky Plunge: The plunger becomes difficult to move or "hops" down the chamber, often caused by the degradation of the rubber surface.
- Physical Wear: Visible nicks, tears, or a "sticky" residue on the edges of the gasket that cannot be washed away.
- Flavor Taint: The rubber has absorbed old coffee oils over time, which can impart a bitter or rancid taste to fresh brews.
Installation Tips
- Removal: Simply peel the old rubber gasket off the end of the plastic plunger. No tools are required.
- Cleaning: Thoroughly clean the end of the plunger to remove any old coffee residue or oils before installing the new seal.
- Attachment: Stretch the new gasket over the circular end of the plunger until it snaps securely into the groove.
- Proper Storage: To extend the life of your new gasket, always store your AeroPress with the plunger pushed all the way through the chamber or completely removed. Storing it inside the chamber under compression will cause the rubber to deform faster.
- Lubrication: If the plunge feels stiff, you can apply a very thin layer of food-grade mineral oil or simply wet the seal with water before use.
