FAQ

This kit is designed for Briggs & Stratton 2 through 5 horsepower engines equipped with a horizontal crankshaft, including the 450 through 600 series. It is compatible with carburetor models 5021, 5021A, 5021B, 5021C, 5021D, 5021H, and 5021K.
This kit serves as a direct replacement for Briggs & Stratton part numbers 270026, 272538, 272538S, 272637, 4157, 4168, 5021, 5021K, 690766, 221377, 692206, and 260455.
If your engine is surging, hunting for idle, difficult to start, or running inconsistently, the diaphragm may have stiffened or cracked due to age or ethanol-blended fuel exposure. Since the diaphragm acts as the fuel pump on these Pulsa-Jet carburetors, a loss of flexibility prevents the engine from receiving a consistent fuel supply.
Each pack contains 6 sets of the essential components for a carburetor rebuild, including the diaphragm, the fuel pump spring, and the spring cap.
When installing, ensure the mating surfaces of the carburetor and fuel tank are clean and free of old gasket material or debris. The diaphragm must be seated correctly against the tank flange before tightening the carburetor mounting screws. It is recommended to tighten these screws in a cross-pattern to ensure even pressure and prevent vacuum leaks.
The primary cause of failure is the degradation of the rubber material, often accelerated by the use of ethanol-blended fuels. Over time, the diaphragm loses its elasticity and becomes brittle, which prevents it from pulsing correctly to draw fuel from the tank into the carburetor.
