You should consider replacing your filter if you notice reduced airflow from your HVAC vents, persistent unpleasant odors inside the cabin, or increased dust accumulation on your dashboard. If it has been more than 12,000 to 15,000 miles since your last change, the filter media is likely saturated and restricting airflow.
Installation is generally straightforward and typically takes 5–10 minutes. In most compatible models, the cabin air filter is located behind the glove box. You will need to empty the glove box, release the dampener arm, and disengage the stop tabs to lower the compartment and access the filter housing. No specialized tools are required for most of these vehicle platforms.
Activated carbon filters include a layer of charcoal that helps neutralize odors, exhaust fumes, and pollutants before they enter the vehicle cabin. While a standard filter traps dust and pollen, the activated carbon layer provides an extra level of filtration for gases and smells, resulting in fresher air inside the car.
