4 SIMPLE STEPS

4 SIMPLE STEPS

1. Access to your resistor (usually behind/ under the glove box); 2. Release the 2 screws that secure the resistor. Unplug the resistor connector and the resistor plug; 3. Disconnect the vehicle’s negative battery cable. Replace the old wire harness by cutting the wires and matching them to the new wire harness (take note of where each wire goes); 4. Reinstall with the new resistor. You can put some dielectric grease on in the resistor connector housing to avoid water intrusion.

This part is compatible with a wide range of Chevrolet, GMC, and Isuzu models, including the Chevrolet Express (1500, 2500, 3500, 4500) and GMC Savana (1500, 2500, 3500, 4500) produced between 1996 and 2019. It also fits 2003–2009 Chevrolet Kodiak and GMC Topkick (C4500, C5500, C6500, C7500, C8500) models, as well as 2005–2008 Isuzu HTR and HVR trucks.
This resistor kit serves as a direct replacement for several OEM part numbers, including 1580560, 22941007, 89018770, and 3A1041.
The most common sign of a failing resistor is when your HVAC fan only works on the highest speed setting, or stops working entirely on lower speeds. You may also notice intermittent fan operation or a burning smell coming from the vents, which often indicates that the resistor or the wiring harness has overheated or suffered from corrosion.
Yes, this kit includes both the blower motor resistor and the necessary wiring harness pigtail. Replacing the harness along with the resistor is highly recommended, as the original connector is often damaged or melted due to the same heat buildup that caused the resistor to fail.
Installation is generally straightforward and can typically be completed in under an hour. You will primarily need basic hand tools, such as a screwdriver or socket set, to access the blower motor housing under the passenger side dashboard. Because this kit includes the pigtail, you will need to perform a simple wire splice to connect the new harness.
Blower motor resistors fail primarily due to excessive heat buildup. Over time, the electrical resistance causes the component to get very hot; if the blower motor itself is drawing too much current due to age or debris, or if the cabin air filter is restricted, the heat cannot dissipate properly, leading to the failure of the resistor and the melting of the electrical connector.
