When to Replace

  • HVAC fan only operates on the highest speed setting.
  • Blower fan speed cannot be adjusted or works intermittently.
  • No air is blowing from the vents even when the fan is audible.
  • A burning plastic smell is present near the passenger side dashboard.

Installation Tips

  • The module is typically located in the passenger-side footwell, mounted to the HVAC housing.
  • Always disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal before starting the installation.
  • Use the included wiring harness to replace the original connector, as overheating and corrosion on the original harness is a common point of failure.
  • Before installing the new module, inspect the blower motor. A worn or failing motor can draw excessive current and cause repeated module failure.

4 SIMPLE STEPS

4 SIMPLE STEPS

1. Access to your resistor (usually behind/ under the glove box); 2. Release the 2 screws that secure the resistor. Unplug the resistor connector; 3. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Replace the old wire harness by cutting the wires and matching them to the new wire harness (take note of where each color wire goes); 4. Reinstall with the new resistor using the included screws and washer. You can put some dielectric grease on in the resistor connector housing to avoid water intrusion.

FAQ

You likely need to replace this module if your HVAC fan speed is unresponsive to your manual controls, if the fan only works on certain speeds, or if the blower motor continues to run even after the vehicle has been turned off. These issues are classic signs of a failing control module.
This kit is compatible with a wide range of GM vehicles, including the Chevy Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, Avalanche, and Trailblazer, as well as the GMC Sierra, Envoy, Yukon, Yukon XL, and the Buick Rainier.
This module replaces OEM part number 15-81773 and cross-references with 89018778, 89019351, 19260762, 15-80906, 18-81773, 1581773, 15-80567, 93803636, 89018964, 52495874, JA1639, RU-631, 52409643, 52413530, 1580567, and 1711975.
Yes, this kit includes a new wiring harness. Because this module is an updated design compared to the original factory-installed component, the new connector is required for proper installation. You will need to splice the new harness into your existing wiring.
It is highly recommended to inspect your blower motor when replacing this module. A failing blower motor often draws excessive current, which can overheat and cause premature failure of the new control module. Replacing both components together is an effective way to ensure a long-lasting repair.
The installation is manageable if you are comfortable with basic automotive electrical work. Since the kit requires splicing the new connector provided, ensure you have the proper tools for wire stripping, crimping, and heat-shrinking to ensure a secure, weather-resistant connection.
