Replaces / Cross-Reference Part Numbers
- Replaces any start capacitor with the same capacitance range and voltage rating.
- Commonly replaces part numbers such as Packard PMJ340.
- Interchangeable with capacitors from brands like BMI and TEMCo that meet equivalent electrical specifications.
Compatibility & Fitment
- Designed for use in single-phase AC electric motors to provide starting torque.
- Suitable for applications including HVAC units, air compressors, well pumps, refrigeration units, and various gear motors.
- Features a standard round case and snap-in mounting type for broad compatibility.
When to Replace
- Motor hums but fails to start or is slow to reach operating speed.
- Circuit breaker trips during motor startup.
- The existing capacitor shows physical damage, such as bulging, cracking, or leaking fluid.
- A multimeter test indicates the capacitance is outside the specified tolerance range.
Installation Tips
- Disconnect all electrical power to the motor before installation.
- Safely discharge the existing capacitor by shorting the terminals with a suitable resistor or an insulated tool.
- Confirm the new capacitor's uF/MFD range and voltage rating match the original part. The voltage rating can be equal to or higher than the original.
- Note the wire positions before disconnecting. AC start capacitors are non-polarized.
- Securely mount the new capacitor and firmly connect the wires to the terminals.
